Cowgirls fall to No. 11 Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- The Wyoming Cowgirls showed improvement, but still came out on the short end in three games to No. 11 Hawaii Friday night in the Honolulu Advertiser Volleyball Challenge.

The Rainbow Wahine won in straight sets, 25-10, 25-15 and 25-18.

“I was very pleased with the effort the Cowgirls gave,” said head coach Carrie Yerty. “We competed for every point and our defense and blocking were stronger tonight. Tasha (Weishahn) set a nice match with her ball distribution which allowed our hitters to score. We were also more consistent passing and serving.”

The Cowgirls were led by Jenna Arneson who recorded a team-high nine kills along with 11 digs. She was followed by Lauren Whitney with seven kills. Wyoming hit just .112 (27-16-98) for the match.

Hawaii was led by Stephanie Ferrell with 13 kills, seven digs and three total blocks. Tara Little led the way in digs with 12. The Rainbow Wahine hit .343 (48-11-108) for the match and out blocked the Cowgirls 7-3.

Wyoming will close out play at the tournament Saturday night at 6 p.m. against No. 12 Minnesota.
